Ok, I have a few quick thoughts about The Knicks and their contribution to the NBA. I wish people would stop calling Madison Square Garden “The Mecca” of Basketball. I will waste no time in saying The New York Knicks are the most overrated franchise in NBA History. Actually, The Knicks could be the most overrated franchise in American Sports. Now, I enjoyed watching the 90's Knicks Teams and you could say Jordan stopped them from winning a ring or two but, you have to WIN. As I always do in DA DOME, I have the numbers and THE FACTS.
6 Statements:
1. The Knicks haven’t won an NBA title since 1973.
2. Only 2 NBA titles in over 70 years. YES, over 70 years. (1970 and 1973)
3. Haven’t been to the NBA Finals since the 1990’s.
4. Only 1 NBA MVP in Franchise History. This was Willis Reed in 1970.
5. Only have 2 Coaches of the year in over 70 years.
6. Who are the best players in Knicks History? Are any of them in the Top 5-10 players of all Time? If so, who? By the way, I love Patrick Ewing, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Willis Reed and Clyde Frazier.
MY VERDICT: I respect the NBA to the point where I will NEVER call The Knicks and Madison Square Garden “The Mecca”. I mean, the only logical MECCA’s are The Lakers and The Celtics. Outside of them would be Chicago and San Antonio. The four teams I selected have a rich history of winning rings at some point in the history of the league.
Thoughts?
Peace
Yep, I agree with you. Sometimes people blend hip hop and basketball when it comes to New York. If we are only talking about the NBA, the Knicks aren't one of the more successful franchises in regard to rings for the past 40 years. Good breakdown bro!
Well said. Micheal Jordan really hurt the entire east. Pat Ewing was the biggest name to play for the Knicks during my era of understanding basketball. Pat played 15 years with the Knicks and they got to the finals against Houston in 94 where it was questionable to keep John Starks in the game that shot them out the game with like a 1-15 shooting.. As far as being the Mecca, yes they have had some great street-ball legends where that name in my opinion resinated from i.e. Rucker Park, not from the Knicks. The last thing to come out of NY is hip hop music not basketball, winning that is, and high school players. Ewing and the Hoyas are the reason for the Big East being a powerhouse conference back in the 80s; those Georgetown teams was a beast back then. If Im not mistaken GT went to 3 National Championship games with Ewing and won one against Houston, lost two to NC and Nova. Ewing is one of the most decorated college basketball players of the 80s and all time its just too bad MJ kept his foot on his neck and most of the NBA from winning NBA championships. Oh, Ewing was before Christian Laettner in winning. Three Final Fours and Three National Championship in four years, not too bad for a college career. Boston, Lakers, Spurs, and Bulls are all that should be before the Knicls and so called Mecca like you said.
